Michael Eric Gonzales Cuejilo is serving his second term as Councilor of the 2nd Legislative District of Mandaluyong City.
From the time he was a toddler up till the present, Councilor Cuejilo is known to his family and peers as “BOTONG”, the nickname given by his grandfather, the late Senate President Neptali A. Gonzales.
Botong is a Licensed Architect by profession. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree from the University of Santo Tomas. He also took a Special Course on Urban and Regional Planning in UP Diliman in 2017 and Choices in Local Government at Philippine Society for Public Administration-UP NCPAG in 2018.
Currently in the 12th City Council, he serves as Chairperson of the Committee on Urban Planning, Technology, Zoning and Community Development and Education, Arts and Culture; Vice Chairperson of Committee on Landed Estates and Housing; Member of Committees on Health and Sanitation, Labor, Employment and Manpower Development and Transportation, Traffic, Communications and Tricycle Franchising Board.
As a member of the 11th City Council, he was able to submit and sponsored more than 120 Ordinances and more than 260 Resolutions. Most notably are the following:
- Ordinance 847, S-2021 which implemented the Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with the ISO 9001:2015 for the enhanced efficiency in the provision of public service by the City Government;
- Ordinance No. 794, S-2020 which encourages and promotes urban agriculture as it will be one of the practical and effective measures to address stability of food supply, alleviate poverty, foster social interaction among communities, and protect the environment through eco-friendly methods and other alternative and innovative gardening method;
- Resolution 2945, S-2020 wherein the San Miguel Foundation (SMF), the city, and the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) agreed to enter into an agreement involving the construction of a COVID-19 testing laboratory on NCMH grounds. SMF chose the City of Mandaluyong as a donee of a PCR machine which would help the City’s fight against COVID-19;
- Resolution 2940, S-2020 wherein the City Council endorses the establishment of the three hundred (300) bed capacity tertiary training and general hospital in Barangay Mauway, to be known as the Senate President Neptali A. Gonzales General Hospital. The said hospital was through the initiative of former Congresswoman Queenie Gonzales and incumbent Congressman Neptali “Boyet” Gonzales II;
- Resolution 2832, S-2019 wherein San Miguel Foundation Inc. offered a donation to provide an Eco-bricks hub for Waste to Eco Bricks Project. Eco-bricks are a popular solution to the plastic pollution wherein waste-filled plastic bottles are turned into building blocks.
As a Councilor, he also partnered with different government agencies and private institutions such as San Miguel Corporation, Villar Sipag Foundation, and TESDA-PAMAMARISAN to provide different projects and programs to Mandaleños.
Councilor Botong Gonzales Cuejilo is the second of three sons of Myrna and Eric. He is married to Ivy, with whom he has three children. Outside of his “council time”, Botong is active with social volunteer work, loves to keep updated on technology, enjoys music and sports, and of spending time with his wife and kids.
