A total of 190 day care children in Mandaluyong City today received “school kits” from the State of Qatar through the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education in a ceremonial turn over at the city hall.
Vice President and Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sara Duterte led the distribution of the school kits and was joined by Mandaluyong City Mayor Ben Abalos, Vice Mayor Menchie Abalos, Ambassador of the State of Qatar Dr. Ali Ibrahim Al-Malki, and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos.
The school kit is a drawstring bag filled with notebooks, a pencil case, writing instruments, and a tumbler.
Mayor Abalos thanked the Ambassador of the State of Qatar for its support to the city’s campaign on free education for students. Aside from offering free education, the city government has also subsidized the uniforms and shoes of students.
Similarly, Vice President Duterte thanked the State of Qatar for their initiative in supporting the country’s education sector. She also lauded Mandaluyong City’s Project TEACH – a program of the city that extends free services and intervention to children with special needs of indigent families, which received the United Nations Public Service Award in 2015.
