MANDALUYONG GOV’T HOLDS VACCINATION DRIVE FOR TRANSPORT GROUPS AT STARMALL EDSA SHAW TERMINAL

The City Government of Mandaluyong, in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and Starmall EDSA Shaw, today held a vaccination drive at the latter’s activity area to encourage public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and conductors, as well as commuters, to get their free booster shots and increase their immunity against COVID-19.

Mayor Ben Abalos, Starmall EDSA Head Nhet Tecson, LTFRB Regional Director Zona Tamayo, DOH Director IV Rowena Lora, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Director IV Dr. Ma. Loida Alonza, and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Assistant Secretary for Community Participation Elizabeth Lopez De Leon led the ceremonial vaccination of drivers and passengers. The campaign is in line with the national government’s PinasLakas Booster campaign to increase the number of vaccinated Filipinos by making vaccines easily accessible through a settings-based approach such as deploying jabs in offices, schools, public transport terminals, and others.

Mayor Ben Abalos encouraged those in the transport sector to avail of the free booster shots following DOH reports of increased number of individuals infected with COVID-19. He also reminded the public that there is still the need to follow minimum health protocols at all times.

Abalos added that individuals working in the transport sector and commuters are among those who are vulnerable to and need protection from COVID-19 since they frequently have person-to-person contact on a daily basis.
