SIX BARANGAYS IN MANDALUYONG GET SGLGB FROM DILG

Six barangays in Mandaluyong City were awarded with the Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangays (SGLGB) by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). The award was presented to the barangay captains with Mayor Ben Abalos and Vice Mayor Menchie Abalos by DILG-Mandaluyong City Director Patrick Megia.

Under DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2023-81, a barangay will be given the SGLGB Award after fulfilling the three core governance areas (financial administration, disaster preparedness, and peace and order and safety) and at least one of three essential governance areas (business friendliness, social protection, environmental management) as required by the agency.

Of the six barangays that received the SGLGB, Barangays New Zaniga, Daang Bakal, at Plainview have satisfied all the required governance areas set by the DILG. The three barangays will compete with other barangays in the national level.

Meanwhile, Barangays Wack Wack Greenhills East, Old Zaniga and Namayan fulfilled the three core governance areas and at least one essential governance area required for an SGLGB award.

Mayor Abalos commended the achievements of the six barangays, as well as all other barangays of Mandaluyong, saying that the governance at the barangay level helps improve governance at the city level. “Mandaluyong City will not be what will it is right now if not for our barangay captains, council, and volunteers who are always in touch with the residents.”
