MANDALUYONG CITY INKS SISTERHOOD AGREEMENT WITH MUNICIPALITY OF SAN ANDRES, CATANDUANES

The City Government of Mandaluyong on Monday (September 12) forged a sisterhood agreement with the Municipality of San Andres, Province of Catanduanes to create seamless exchanges in best practices between the two local government units. The ceremonial signing was held during the flag raising ceremony at the Mandaluyong City Hall Executive Building.

San Andres Mayor Leo Mendoza, along with members of the municipal council and department heads, made the 14-hour trip over the weekend to personally meet Mandaluyong City Mayor Ben Abalos and attend the signing of the sisterhood agreement.

The partnership, according to Mayor Mendoza, aims to bring mutual benefits to both the people of Mandaluyong City and the people of San Andres. “We look at Mandaluyong City as a benchmark to improve our existing local policies which can help San Andres, as a third-class municipality, develop into a better local government in this new normal.”

Mayor Abalos recalled that San Andres is among the municipalities in the Bicol region famous for their abaca products in the early 50s.

“Only a few MandaleÃąos knew that the region is a big exporter of abaca products to Europe back then,” Abalos explained.” Perhaps that will be one of several areas where we can help Mayor Mendoza with. Of course, there’s also the focus on improving local governance and delivery of public service through the use of today’s technology.”
